Six Tips To Consider When Choosing A Kitchen Supplier
By Lorraine Smith

Client References

Always make sure you ask to see or call for references from previous satisfied clients.

Ideally you want to talk to these people and ask them what the supplier did well and did not do too well.

If you get lucky you should be able to find out how the supplier reacted to problems and whether they quickly implemented solutions. Response times can be very indicative of overall efficiency.

Financial Stability

For your own comfort you need to see whether your chosen supplier is financially stable.

You don't need to see their accounts as such, but you could do a credit check on them, the same thing they are likely to run on you!

You could try engaging a recognised credit check agency such as Equifax. They have a detailed website and you can order reports online.

This way you should be able to obtain an independent bill of health on the company.

This makes sense because you will be investing a considerable amount of money with the company and you want this to be safeguarded as much as possible.

Ask For Free Kitchen Design Ideas

A reputable company that has been trading for some time should have a great portfolio of previous installations.

Make sure you ask to see their pictures and you can pick up some ideas for your own particular design.

Money Up Front

As in other building projects you need to be wary of kitchen suppliers who want all the money for the installation before the job is completed.

This may be their usual business arrangement but could indicate that they are having cash flow difficulties. In which case you should be very cautious.

Popularity and PR

Ask around and find out if the company is popular locally. You may be able to spot their adverts in a local paper for instance.

Companies that advertise locally will be more likely to want to protect and enhance their reputation and the bigger the advert, the bigger the reputation they want to protect.

Time to Start of Installation

Finally, be wary of kitchen suppliers who claim they can 'do the job tomorrow'.

You need to expect a wait to have your kitchen installed by the better suppliers. It is an indication of their workload which translates into popular demand.
