Summer's Coming - The Do It Yourself In Ground Swimming Pool
By Michael Allen

Summer is on its way. Spring has finally broken. Even though there is a small threat of some winter left, summer will be here before you know it. A pool in your own back yard would make everything a little better.

What most people are afraid of is how much one would cost. After talking to a "pool installation expert," they think that the only way to go is to buy an out of ground pool from a department store that you either have to blow up or build yourself. Fits up to 10 people. Only lasts one summer. Sound familiar?

Well, not many people know how easy it would be to do an in ground pool on their own terms. But if you thought about it for a second, it's really not hard at all. It's just like anything else you do in your life. If you're the type of guy who tries to do his own plumbing or contract work before you look for a contractor, then you are perfect for doing your own pool.

A "pool installation expert" will hire a landscaper to come in and dig the hole in your yard. The expert will pay the landscaper and then charge you for the service. That sounds about right. But, you might end up paying double for a service that you could have provided for yourself. You don't always have to go through a consultant or a general contractor. Think of them like the middle person. Not needed. Not necessary most of the time. You can call an experienced landscaper and have that hole dug yourself. The landscaper ought to know everything that is required in order to legally dig a hole in your yard and can even get the proper permits for you. Now, you've reduced that expense in half. Look at the rest of the job and start thinking along those lines.

Now that you have the hole, there are pool supplies all over the place to finish the rest. In ground pool filters and liners are really all it takes. Of course, we're talking in the simplest of terms here. You want an extravagant pool? Then, put the time and effort into it and make it as extravagant as you want.

You might have to hire an electrician to do a few small things. Run wire from the house, through the ground and to the pool for all of your wiring needs. Supply electric to the filtering system. Supply electric to any lighting you might want. You have just saved yourself even more money by hiring the electrician yourself. Have fun with it!

Of course, everything should come with instructions. Kids' mini indoor playgrounds come with instructions. I've opened my daughter's new doll package to find instructions. Well, I might make in ground pools sound really simple. But, the fact is that you should have instructions for everything you need to think about when you are installing an in ground pool in your yard. There are instructions all over the internet. I've written a complete instruction guide and I offer it free to anyone who wants to read it.

Download several to get a good idea of what you are doing and more of a variety for what you can do. Most of the time, instructions are free to read, download and print. They should be complete with cautions so that you know what to look for and what not to do. Then, when you are ready, don't be afraid. It's your property and it really is that easy.

Summer will be here before you know it. You have enough time to get the in ground pool instructions and order your supplies. The pool only takes a few days to a few weeks at most depending on you. But, the experience is worth plenty of summers ahead.

Michael Allen established his experience in various aspects of home improvement when he was involved in preparations with 84 Lumber project design. He was involved in several stages of the planning process in construction projects and also contributed as an on-site administrator. His pool installation instructions are the product of his assistance on a pool and deck project where he was involved in a majority of the decision making.
