Your Bathroom Renovations
By Ken Wilssens

There are as many ideas for designing and planning your bathroom renovations as you can imagine, because imagination is the driving force behind the decorative and design ideas that go into remodeling projects such as this. Some people bring the outdoors into their bathrooms, by adding large plants, outdoor lawn furniture, or even trellises, to dress up the room. Sometimes an ordinary looking room can be made to look rustic, antique, or just more exotic by superimposing a beam of wood against the ceiling or the wall, even if it has no actual structural function and is just for looks. If you are able to bring more light into a bathroom, that is always a good idea, and this can be done by using different kinds of window treatments or by adding a sky light or window or other feature that might require a more extensive remodeling plan.

If you are planning to do structural bathroom renovations, be sure to consult with professional experts along the way, including your own contractors and the local building code inspectors in your locale. Structrual renovations include such things as changing walls or taking out walls or sections of walls, adding doorways or windows, changing the plumbing itself, or raising ceilings.

During a bathroom renovations project, you will likely add value to your house, because the money invested in remodeling the kitchen and the bathroom in a home generally converts into equal or greater returns when the house is sold, because people buying homes are willing to pay more for those with updated kitchens and bathrooms. It is a good idea to keep reciepts for any work you do during your project, because it may be that these expenses can be deducted from the taxes you might own when the house is sold, so that you can realize more of your profits after taxes are paid.

Before starting into a project involving bathroom renovations, try to do as much advance planning as possible, and if you can afford it, have a designer or architect draw up the plans so that you can express them in accurate terms to the contractors doing the work, who will in turn be able to execute your plans accurately and effeciently, according to your specs and custom design details.
