Building a Garage

Now that you have your new house built and all the inside work completed, you might be considering building a garage. You probably have no idea where to start, especially if this is a project you want to do on your own rather than hiring the constriction crew that built your house. There are some steps you can use to make sure you have everything you need to get started on the new construction.
Determine the size of garage you need. You have to consider whether it will be used just for storing your vehicle or if you want to store other vehicles such as a snowmobile or if you want to use part of the garage as a workshop.
Design the plan for the garage. You can draw out your own plans or you can purchase the plans you need at any home improvement store. There are also sites on the Internet where you can download the plans you need absolutely free.
Get the permit. Most towns and cities require you to get a building permit before you start building anything. You can get the permit you need from the city or town council office.
The cost of the garage depends on the size because of the cost of the materials. If you use plans you buy of get free, the amount of materials you need will be contained in the plan. If you design your own plan, you will have to make up the amount of materials you need. Your next step is to visit a lumber store to purchase the lumber you need.
The cost will depend on the finish you want for the exterior of the garage and whether or not you want to have it separate from the house or attached. You will need to use an electrician for the wiring unless you are able to do this yourself and a plumber if you want water and sewage connected in the garage. There are various types of cabinets you might want to have and floor coverings. You might be able to afford to buy everything you need all at once, but most people look at such a project as one that they will complete over time and buy what they need bit by bit.
