Choosing Your Deck Railing Plans
By Andrew Caxton

If you want to have a beautiful deck, the first step is to plan the whole process properly. Planning a deck is a popular
home improvement project for many homeowners. There are so many benefits to be derived from a deck, not the least of which is improving the looks of your home and increasing its value. If you design your deck properly, it can become the center of your family and entertaining life when the weather is nice.

The patterns that deck railings come in is very varied. If you want your deck to give you lasting pleasure, make sure you
choose the right pattern for the deck and for the railings. Planning properly like this will be the best step you can take in order to have a beautiful deck for a very long time to come.

In choosing the right rail pattern for your deck, you have to take certain things into consideration. First of all, where will the deck be located? The layout and design of your home, as well as its size will be a determining factor here. You have to consider all the options, including not so standard ones such as a small walkway, or a privately enclosed area. Next, you have to think about the climate in your area. If you are in a very rain prone or humid area, you have to take that into consideration when you choose decking material. And then, you want to be sure to pick a style that will go with the style of your house. The sleek modern lines of a contemporary railing would not go very well with a Victorian style home, and so you will want to choose accordingly. There are railings that go better with a western design, others that go better with a southern style. Another issue to address is the size of the deck you are going to build. You may be limited by a number of things such as how much area you have to build it on, and also, some local ordinances may limit the size of a deck; make sure you are in compliance with local codes.

In some developments, there may be limitations on the style of deck you are permitted to build. Many homeowners associations want to keep a certain standardized look to the neighborhood and may disallow unusual patterns. You have to check the rules or covenants of the HOA you belong to. If you don't, you may be penalized with fines, or worse still, you may have to tear downs the deck and build one that conforms.

The shape of the deck is another important consideration. There are many options here as well. Deck shapes can be very varied, from the standard square or rectangle to round or angled. Another option to add interest to your deck is built
in benches. Just don't forget that benches may limit your choice of railings you can use.

Planning well and following these guidelines will help you choose the right deck railing. You'll be sure to be happy with your choice if you do.
