Choosing a Driveway Gate
By Ken Wilssens

Enhance the look of your driveway and your home when you install a driveway gate. Consider one made of wrought iron or stainless steel to provide a lasting and timeless quality. With such a gate, you will not only make your property look great, but you will also increase its value. Gates for driveways can be of any width, such as 12, 14, 16 or 18 feet wide. You can have the gate swing in or out or maybe you might like the look of a sliding gate. You can hire a contractor to do the installation or you can buy a kit that lets you do it yourself.

These gates are not cheap, but since they are made to last, it will be a one time expense. Consider the Lexington Gate that starts at just over $1000. This gate is made from steel with a zinc undercoating and then powder coated with a jet black finish for the special look you want. This style of gate opens inwards, but if your driveway is on a slope or if you have obstructions in the way, you might want to consider a sliding gate.

In this type of gate, a slider frame is attached to an ordinary swing gate. There are also rails included to help the gate stay in position as it slides open and closed. These gates are harder to install than ordinary gates and are more expensive. They are worth the extra price that you pay.

If you are in the market for a gate for the driveway, the Internet is a good place to start your search for different styles. Some of these styles include:

* Ranch style

* 4 - runner

* Doggie bar
Contractors can provide you with a no-obligation quote and will explain what is necessary for installing the gate. You will need to have a source of electricity near the gate and you should not have any trees nearby that might block the sunlight if you use a solar panel.
