Large extension - architect/builder recommendations

We are planning to put on a large extension to our house (2 story, full length of house). We have a 4 bed semid on a large corner site in Dublin 15. Probably about 800 sq ft, could also include an extension of an existing attic conversion.

We have a fair idea on what we want to do, but a few people have recommended getting an architect (even for just a few consultations). We have an engineer lined up to do plans, planning permission, certify build, etc. but maybe an architect might come up with some good ideas as there are quite decisions to be made?

Any thoughts on value for money in hiring an architect? Also, any recommendations for builders would be greatly appreciated.

Finally, any rule of thumb for what I should expect to pay for architect/engineer fees and to a builder per sq ft for a Clonsilla (D15) location?
