I am about to build a new house. We are south facing at the back of the house. Does anyone know anything about Solar Heating and its costs and also whether it is efficient to run. Will we also need another form of heating i.e. gas/oil. Where can we get more information.

Hi maureen, you have got three choices. 1, solar water heaters for hot water only, 2 - solar water heaters for hot water and central heating 3 - PV cells to supply electricity. at the moment options 1 and 2 are definitely worth while looking into and will pay back the investment pretty quickly for you. you are lucky coz its a new build with the added bonus of being south facing.

Contact Fergus at www.solarone.ie. He's got a great range of panels and systems and will even do any engineering for you. Tell him you Gary referred you and you might even get a discount!

Let us all know how you get on Very Happy
