I have been looking to get quotations for an extension and renovation project in North Cork County and its been like pulling teeth. I have sent out 17 requests for quotations (calling each builder before hand) and only 3 have come to the site and two quotations have come back (neither has called to see the work involved) We are applying for the mortgage and need a realistic picture of what it is likely to cost so that we can budget and make sure we apply for enough of a mortgage.
I can't even find someone to quote for direct labour of the various stages.
Is anyone else having this problem or am I alone??

You and me both fella. I'm trying to get quotes to a reasonably small straight forward extension to a small City Centre house in Cork, and getting quotes is a nightmare.

I thought the building trade had slowed down? Most dont seem bothered at all.

I get the impression that most of the "stable" builders had money saved for this rainy day and they are hoping that the storm will pass soon. It seems that there is a very small pick up in the work as well. If I encounter any good ones I will give you their details.

Have you got plans for the extension? If so the Architect should be able to recommend a builder.

We have gotten in contact with an engineer who was able to provide a couple of local contacts. The engineer was saying that things may be slow because we are waiting for planning. Is this true?
